#2 – Risk of Digesting Human-Made Toxins

What’s the healthiest fish to eat? Wild or farm-raised fish? This debate never seems to end. In fact, although farm-raised fish have no risk of parasites, they are exposed to human-made toxins. The latter often end up in sushi delights.

Both wild fish (from the Indian and Pacific Oceans) and farm-raised fish have been found to be contaminated by pesticides and chlorine compounds. There are also other toxins, like Ciguatoxins, which are emitted by marine algae microorganisms, contaminating all fish that feed close to reefs.

If a significant amount of ciguatoxins found a way to the human body, it can cause diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and various neurological symptoms. In rare cases, such toxins can even cause anxiety and hallucinations.
