#6 – Tapeworms or Parasites
Getting intestinal parasites is the last thing anyone can expect after eating sushi. Horribly enough, many people have ended up with tapeworms because of raw fish consumption.
Besides the nightmarish case of the man with the 5-foot-long tapeworm, there’s also a man who was suffering from abdominal pain after a sushi meal so he was admitted for an X-ray examination which revealed the parasite stuck in his upper abdominal wall, explaining the pain and giving him a good reason to never eat raw fish again.
The parasite in the last case is a rising herring worm disease that’s also called Anisakiasis. This parasite causes fever, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, and even an allergic, anaphylactic reaction as it glues itself to the intestines or stomach.
