Onions have been scientifically proven to contain antibacterial properties that make them effective at fighting off harmful bacteria, such as E.coli, S.aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus Cereus.
Make sure, therefore, that you get your fair share of red onions, green onions, pearl onions, and yellow onions—the more diverse the selection the better. All of these have substances that can, for example, inhibit the growth of Vibrio cholerae and other harmful bacteria.
