4. You’re taking steaming hot showers

Is taking a hot shower bad for your skin? Well, in many ways, yes! Although there aren’t many things in our daily lives that are as relaxing and satisfying as a long, hot shower, your skin is the one that ends up with the most damage after being exposed to steaming hot water for an extended period of time. Hot water is bad for your skin because it strips it of its natural oils as well as it makes it dry and dehydrated. Your skin would love you to start taking shorter showers using lower water temperatures so it can preserve its natural moisture. Also, apply a moisturizer as soon as you step out from the shower to seal in the moisture.

3. You cannot resist pimple popping

We all know how difficult it is to resist the urge to pop that fat, annoying pimple, and just get over with it already. However, controlling any sudden urge to pop comes with great benefits for your skin. Picking can make the acne worse and result in permanent scarring, not to mention the risk of ending up with an infected popped pimple, which you do not want to deal with (believe me!) So your best bet is to leave your pimples alone no matter how annoying they can be and call your dermatologist to discuss a personalized treatment for your skin.

2. You don’t wear sunscreen

The effects of not wearing sunscreen can go from a light sunburn to premature aging or even cancer. According to Dermatologist Norman Levine, M.D., avoiding the sun is the best way to prevent skin damage. The sun affects the cells that are responsible for skin renewal, and when those cells get injured irreparably, the skin becomes predisposed to premature aging and skin cancer. To keep your skin young, beautiful, and safe, don’t forget to apply sunscreen (preferably SPF 30 or higher) every day and make sure to reapply it every 2 hours when you’re going outside.

1. You don’t clean your cell phone and sunglasses as much as you should

Of all your personal belongings, it’s your smartphone and glasses that you touch the most. So if you aren’t cleaning them regularly, they must be accumulating a scary amount of germs and bacteria, which in turn lead to breakouts, skin irritation, and other issues that you have no idea where they come from. On the bright side, fixing this mess is pretty simple, all you have to do is clean your cell phone and glasses every day using disinfectant wipes and start using your earbuds, so your phone doesn’t touch your face. Also, make sure to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to maintain oil balance. Remember, paying attention to your daily habits can go a long way in maintaining healthy and beautiful skin.
