3. What Happens When You Stay Up Late?

There are several reasons that explain why you stay up late: having a tighter deadline to deliver a job, being a new parent, starting to watch a new season for your favorite TV series, among other valid reasons. Know what happens to the body when you stay up late:

• The Sleep Cycle Is Maladjusted

When you stay up late – and this often happens on weekends when you don’t have to work the next day – your body ends up having a hard time adapting to those sleep habits, and your sleep cycle gets unregulated – one of the most obvious sleep problems.
This explains why Mondays are, most of the time, so complicated because that’s when the body tries to recover from the excesses of sleepless nights at the weekend.

• Sleep Deprivation Has Many Negative Consequences

When a person wakes up beyond his bedtime (and always according to his chronotype), it is natural to suffer from sleep deprivation, and this can bring many negative consequences, such as dizziness, memory problems, inertia, and lack of energy, among other harmful effects.

Result: the brain will always want to go back to bed, and you will basically be sleeping on your feet.

This sleep disorder can even lead to a state of depression because the brain does not have enough quality of rest to make you feel happy and excited. This makes you feel constantly discouraged, frustrated, and unwilling to do anything.

• Makes You More Sensitive to Insulin

There is a direct link between sleep deprivation and the function of insulin in the body. If you have a few hours of sleep, your body becomes more sensitive to insulin, meaning you feel more need to have it, producing less glucose and having less energy.

To counter this deficiency, your body will start to demand more insulin, and, naturally, you start eating more pizzas, burgers, and other types of junk food, which ends up posing a risk for the appearance of diabetes or other health problems.

Make this small adjustment of 30 minutes at bedtime now and immediately reap its numerous benefits.
