As we have mentioned at the beginning, variation in stool color is caused by a diet change in the vast majority of the cases. So, if you have suddenly started eating a lot of green veggies, don’t be surprised if your stools turn greenish.

Spinach, broccoli, and kale are some of the vegetables that are known to cause this color variation. They contain a natural pigment called chlorophyll that, besides allowing plants to absorb energy from light, also gives them their green color – chlorophyll absorbs blue and red wavelength and reflects the green one. When you eat a large portion of vegetables, this pigment can contribute to change the color of your stools.

Don’t worry, there’s no reason to be concerned. You are perfectly fine. Just keep eating your veggies. They are an essential part of a healthy daily diet and a great source of vitamins and minerals.

Additional information: dark green poop is very common among babies who have recently started eating solid green vegetables and fruits.
