Early trials showed that Botox can help relieve symptoms of depression even though experts are still skeptical about this matter. The findings are based on a mechanism that’s known as the facial feedback hypothesis, which suggests that people’s facial expressions can have a direct influence on their mood.
According to a small 2014-study that was conducted on seventy-four individuals who suffer from depression, 52 percent of those who were given Botox experienced alleviated symptoms in 6 weeks, compared to 15 percent of the people who were given a placebo. Clinical trials are still going on to find whether Botox can help treat depression.
