Fig syrup can be used to treat digestive problems. Besides being rich in fiber, figs have other laxative properties that can help people with constipation. These claims are backed by a small number of scientific studies.
One of those studies, published in the FASEB Journal in 2010, concluded that figs had a very similar effect to fiber supplements in improving constipation symptoms such as the number of bowel movements, bowel movement time, and stomach pain.
Perhaps this fruit truly is the best homemade formula to prevent constipation. Just be careful, because depending on the person, sometimes eating too many figs may cause diarrhea.
