Beans are number one on this list, and of course, there is no surprise here – beans are probably the first thing people think of whenever they talk about what foods cause gas.
But why is that? Well, beans are rich in raffinose, and raffinose is a sophisticated type of sugar that is not easy to digest.
After passing through the intestine, where the bacteria break down, it transforms into carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and methane gas, which will then exit through the rectum – and that is why bean farts smell so bad. If you can’t live without beans, try soaking them overnight to reduce gas.
