These antidepressants are probably the medications that cause drowsiness to a larger percentage of patients overall. It is rare for a person to take antidepressants and not feel extreme fatigue, especially during the first weeks of treatment.

Just like antihistamines, these drugs also affect the brain’s neurotransmitters. Moreover, they lower the cortisol levels on the human body. Cortisol is also known as the stress hormone and is linked with the development of depressive symptoms. This effect is believed to cause additional fatigue.
