1. Antihistamines

If you have seasonal allergies, you are probably already used to take a pack of antihistamines out of your medicine cabinet as soon as springtime arrives.

Besides being used to alleviate and prevent symptoms of allergies, they can also be used to prevent nausea, vomiting, and treat… insomnia. That’s right. Antihistamines are considered CNS (central nervous system) depressants.

Some antihistamines such as Benadryl contain a component called diphenhydramine. The latter can also be found in sleeping pills due to its significant sedative effect.

Antihistamines developed more recently usually present a lower risk of fatigue. So, if you often feel sleepy when taking an antihistamine, ask the pharmacist if he can sell you newer-generation drugs such as Claritin or Zyrtec.
