Memory problems can be linked to poor quality of sleep.
Lack of sleep causes your memories to stay stuck in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that is involved in memory and learning, preventing them from reaching the prefrontal cortex which plays a major role in sensory processing, emotional behavior, and control of drives.
This explains why you experience forgetfulness and mood swings often. As your sleep deteriorates over time, you become unable to remember new things or save memories.
While sleep requirements differ from one person to another, it is recommended that the average adult gets from 7 to 9 house of night sleep. According to sleep experts, sleeping for 6 hours or less is simply not enough at all and does not only lead to forgetfulness but also to fatigue, depression, and illness.
