There is a whole lot of myths around water, the substance that is essential for our life and life on earth. This is only natural, as it keeps us alive, and so some myths are inevitable. Keep that in mind next time you are drinking from a water bottle (sprinkling water or otherwise) or paying your water bill.

In this article, we are going to debunk some of those famous myths, so that your knowledge about this essential substance is not tainted by false information that has no basis in truth and no empirical evidence to support it.

1. Bottled Water is Healthier

It does not matter if you have the best water bottle or just a regular plastic water bottle—the fact that water is bottled, at all, does not make it healthier than tap water!

This is a myth that has been perpetuated by water companies that earn significant amounts of money off selling people (1) water in bottles and (2) the myth that it is healthier for them than regular tap water.

Of course, there are mineral water benefits; however, no study has proved that tap water contains fewer minerals than bottled water does. This is a myth, and now you know!

2. Water is the Only Path to Hydration

This myth is the one that probably makes people rush to water to stay hydrated. Well, water does keep you hydrated but is not the only source of hydration out there. Studies have shown that you can get 20 percent of your hydration needs through fruits and vegetables.

Therefore, in addition to drinking that awesome spring water, well water, or carbonated water, make sure that you leave a place in your stomach for some fruits and fresh vegetables. This way, you will have some diversity in your stomach!

3. It is Impossible to Drink a Lot of Water

Contrary to the myth, you cannot drink too much water without suffering consequences. If you drink more water than your body can handle, you run the risk of overloading the capacity of some of the most important organs in your body—the kidneys!

As they will not be able to deal with the excess amount of your body, they will push the water to your bloodstream, which will cause the blood to become diluted.

Therefore, make sure that you keep water health in your mind, and do not drink more than your body can take of the water. You need only drink the recommended amount to get the essential water benefits without causing damage to your body.

4. Drinking Ice Cold Water Speeds Up Metabolism

To a certain extent, this myth is true. However, the effect is so ever slight that we cannot take it out of the category of ‘myths.’ For that reason, drinking cold water does not speed up your metabolism.

It will allow you to burn some extra calories, but nothing noticeable. So, if you have some cold regular bottled water, drink it because it is water and you need and not because it will allow you to speed up your metabolism.

5. Water Cannot Rid You of Hunger Pains

The myth says that if you drink water, you will not be able to deter the feeling of hunger. That is quite wrong: water has been proven to suppress appetite, which helps people feel less hungry and lose weight more effectively.

So if you have been looking for some of the benefits of well water or the benefits of filtered water (or any other water type for that matter), then make sure that you jot down ‘suppressing hunger’ as one of them.

6. You Do Not Need to Drink Water in Winter

Now this one can be a dangerous myth on people, so we had to debunk it. You need to have good water to drink at all times, and it does not matter if it is winter or summer. Winter is a time that is characterized by having less moisture in the air around.

So even if you are not sweating, you must drink enough water to keep your body hydrated. During this time, it is effective to drink water if you want to boost your immune system and have very good health.

In wintertime, make sure that you are making the most out of those sparkling water benefits, for example, and that you do not make dire the effects of water pollution on human health by skipping the drinking of water for long stretched of time in the winter.
