Mornings are for successful people, and even though we recognize that it is not easy to challenge your old ways, doing so can have a tremendous effect on your life and your overall health. We know that you are probably tired of the infinite number of lists about bad habits that can ruin your health, but handling your daily routine is important. So, buckle up, and let’s find out which bad habits you have to quit in the morning.

1. Do not hit the snooze button

We know, we know. It’s so tempting to get those extra ten minutes in your comfortable, cozy bed. But science says you shouldn’t, and here is why: Our sleeping cycles last for approximately 90 minutes, and so every time you hit the snooze button, you set up your brain to start another sleep cycle that you won’t be able to complete, thus disrupting the pattern. As a result, you will experience what is commonly called sleep inertia – general overwhelming grogginess you feel when you get up. And even though this feeling usually lasts no more than half an hour, there is a chance it may last for four hours. This can lead you to feel tired, even if you got enough sleep during the night, and can ruin your day. This is one of the things that take years off your life – yes, years because you won’t have the energy to go about your day properly, and you will end up wasting so many moments. So, you know the deal: when the alarm rings, there are no excuses – it’s time to get up!

2. Stop scrolling in the mornings

Our smartphones have replaced a lot of devices in our lives, and the alarm clock is one of them. For obvious reasons, your device will have to be the first thing you grab in the morning, as you need to turn off your alarm. But that is no excuse to check your phone as soon as you wake up. Dealing with apps, news, and information as soon as you wake up does the exact opposite of promoting brain health. On the contrary – it will keep your brain from waking up slow, as it should, and it may even send you down a stressful spiral filled with anxiety. Taking up this much stimulation right away can steal from your energy. Don’t do that, do yourself a favor and stop scrolling in the mornings.
