The immune system encompasses a highly complex set of mechanisms that together act as our body’s first line of defense against invading pathogens.

When a pathogen finds a way into your organism (which happens all the time, by the way), it’s the immune system you have to rely on to identify and trigger an immune response to eliminate this threat and avoid potentially serious health problems.

Unfortunately, several factors can affect the functioning of the immune system and compromise its effectiveness and reliability. A weakened immune system makes your body more vulnerable to external threats, so it is a problem that needs to be detected and addressed as quickly as possible.

Here are six warning signs that may indicate you have a weak immune system!

1. Intestine problems

Having ongoing digestive issues such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating, or gas can signify that something is wrong with your immune system.

The digestive system and the immune system are closely linked. About 70% of the immune system tissue is located in the digestive tract, which means that they mutually influence each other: when you are constantly having intestinal problems, your immune system might be compromised.

2. High-stress levels

We all know about the negative impact that stress and anxiety can have on our lives, especially concerning our mental health. But that’s not all. It can also do a lot of damage to our physical health and immune system.

Being constantly under great stress causes a hormonal imbalance that interferes with the immune system. More specifically, it reduces the number of white blood cells (the body cells that actively fight infectious diseases and invaders) and may even lead to tissue damage.

It’s important to do everything in your power to remove excessive stress from your life. You can try a few short-term stress-relief strategies such as meditation, regular exercise, and eating healthy food.

If those things don’t work, you should probably talk to your doctor or schedule an appointment with a therapist. Being constantly stressed is not normal, so do something about it!
